The quality of plastic valves is assessed based on various factors, including their sealing integrity. The nuanced evaluation of tightness itself can be illustrated by terms such as 'watertight,' 'airtight,' or 'gastight.' While all these terms suggest that the valve is tight, the devil, however, lies in the details.
A review of the specifications from standards and the Pressure Equipment Directive reveals a significant scope for interpretation. While ISO 9393-2 defines how tightness is to be tested, it does not specify when a valve may be designated as tight.
Clearer specifications, including leakage rates, exist for metallic valves. However, the question arises how a standard designed for metal valves can be correctly applied to plastic materials.
How can the quality characteristic of 'tightness' be ensured and demonstrated when there is no clear categorization for it?
This presentation aims to highlight the requirements and gaps in standards and regulations, as well as to demonstrate the approach to producing a high-quality, tight valve that ultimately reaches the customer.
